Anthropic Built the World's Most Dangerous AI. Then Locked It Away.
On April 7, Anthropic announced Claude Mythos Preview — its most powerful model ever — and simultaneously announced it would not be available to the public. Not to API customers. Not to businesses. Not to Claude Pro subscribers. Not ever.
Instead, Mythos Preview is being deployed exclusively to a handpicked coalition of 40+ companies — Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon — under something called Project Glasswing, a defensive cybersecurity initiative Anthropic assembled. The model is capable of autonomously conducting significant AI research and accelerating AI progress at a speed Anthropic itself can't safely predict or control.
To replace it for general use, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.7 yesterday (April 16) — the most capable publicly available Claude yet, with the first high-resolution vision support in the Claude lineup. But Anthropic openly conceded: Opus 4.7 is not Mythos. The gap between what they built and what they released is intentional.
Every major AI lab is racing toward models smarter than anything humans have created. Anthropic just admitted — publicly — that they crossed a line they weren't comfortable crossing. This is the first time a frontier AI lab built a model it decided the world isn't ready for and held it back. That's not a PR stunt. That's a signal about where the frontier actually is.

• 74% of AI's Economic Value Is Going to 20% of Companies — Are You In That Group? PwC's 2026 AI Performance Study (April 13, 2026 — 1,217 executives, 25 sectors) found that a small group of companies is capturing nearly three-quarters of all AI-driven financial gains. What separates them isn't bigger budgets or better tools. The top 20% use AI to pursue new growth opportunities and reinvent their business model.
• Claude Opus 4.7 Is Live — And It Can Now See: Released yesterday, Opus 4.7 is Anthropic's new flagship public model. For the first time, Claude supports high-resolution images — 3.75 megapixels vs 1.15 megapixels previously. It handles complex, long-running coding tasks with self-verification: it checks its own outputs before responding.
• Snowflake and OpenAI Just Made Agentic AI a One-Click Option for 12,600 Enterprises: Snowflake and OpenAI finalized their $200M partnership integrating GPT models natively into Snowflake's data platform — available to all 12,600 enterprise customers. The deal means OpenAI's most capable models now live inside the same environment where enterprise data already exists. No integrations to build. No APIs to string together. No code required. Agentic workflows that query your data, trigger actions, and surface insights — already live.
One Thing To Try
The "Am I a Leader or a Laggard?" Test.
Paste this into Claude or ChatGPT:
"PwC research shows 20% of companies capture 74% of AI's economic value. The difference: leaders use AI to pursue new revenue and reinvent their model — laggards use it to do the same work faster. Audit my business based on this: I'll describe what I use AI for right now. Tell me honestly — am I a leader or a laggard? Then give me one specific move that would shift me into the leader category. Here's how I currently use AI: [describe it]"
You'll either feel great about where you are — or you'll feel the urgency to change one thing immediately. Either outcome is useful.
